Addiction May be Due to Problems in Brain Chemistry

Is there any proof that brain chemistry and addiction are directly linked to each other? Since several years, addiction specialists are debating about the origin of alcohol and drug addiction, the two most common forms of addiction. Majority of the treatment professionals, who are specialized in treating cocaine, heroin, meth, Oxycontin and alcohol addiction believe that people lacking discipline are more likely to develop addiction. However, one of the differing schools of thoughts tells that addiction can also be caused due to an imbalance in our brain chemistry or due to a disease.
The more surprising fact is
that the second one of the 2 theories discussed above is recognized by American Medical Association or AMA. According to studies conducted by AMA, both alcohol and drug addictions are chronic disorders. According to them, individuals with any of these addictions possess brain, which are both chemically and physiologically different from brains of individuals who are not suffering from any kind of addiction. According to this theory, addiction and human brain are naturally interconnected.
Till date a number of researches have been conducted to find out the links between addiction and human brain. The common revelations made by them suggest that our brain’s craving center pathway gets influenced or altered due to use of drugs and alcohol. The neurotransmitters of our brain start sending messages constantly to our brain. Neurotransmitters use hormones called serotonin and dopamine for generating a feeling of happiness and pleasure. Using drugs and alcohol incessantly results in over production of these two hormones in our brain and brain starts depending on drugs and alcohol for feeling happy.
Following this theory an effective treatment for addiction is discovered. This treatment procedure is known as Ibogaine treatment. The treatment is done using purified Ibogaine; the drug gets purified from roots grown in African countries. Ibogaine treatment works by balancing our brain chemistry an eliminating the withdrawal symptoms. The success rate of this treatment procedure is significantly more than any other addiction treatment available.
