Alcohol Addiction – The Most Lethal Of All
Nov 03
Many of us may have a misconception regarding the lethalness of drugs and smoking. One may consider alcohol addiction as a less deadly addiction. But this is not so. Before coming across a news post a couple of days back, even I had similar fallacies in mind, but everything just turned my justifications upside down after I read about the facts from a trusted source. Alcohol is rightly supposed to be more dangerous addictive compared to the illicit drugs like cocaine and heroin – reveal the new studies.
Experts have hibernated into the evaluations of addictive substances like nicotine, tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and other ecstasies. They have ranked them according to their potential of causing human destruction – individually and for the society on the whole. They made analysis of different drugs, their ill impacts on human body and their connection with other environmental and social damages like family break ups, economic depletion, a rise in anti- social activities, ecological imbalance via pollution, imprisonment, unemployment, national ill health, etc.
When the combined results of all kinds of analysis and studies about different drugs and addictives were made to arrive at a juncture, what was found was that heroin, methamphetamine and crack cocaine had proved to be most lethal to human body and the individuality, in the past. There are many effects of alcohol addiction and when wider effects, like the social and environmental costs were considered, alcohol, crack cocaine and heroin were extracted as the most deadly ones. But considering the most recent analytic and statistical results, alcohol is seen to outrank every other addictive substance; heroin and cocaine being the runners up. The scorings of marijuana, LSD and ecstasy were found to be far lower than expected.
According to the experts, alcohol is observed to score the top position among the most lethal drugs because it is widely used; the hazards go, most of the times, unobserved; and the addiction leads to social and environmental degradation as well as self destruction. The excess consumption of alcohol, which happens in all cases of alcohol addiction, is numerous number of times witnessed to be capable of posing threats of fatal damage to all organs of the body, beginning with the liver and the brain. The death rates in connection with alcoholism are quite high – may be fatal deaths, accidents, suicides or even murders. Numerous other crimes are associated with alcoholism, without errors – like child abuse, rapes, murders, eve teasing, drink and drive, etc. The addiction is posing a social threat to the globe by presenting hikes in crime compared to almost all other drugs.
Solutions suggested to drug and alcohol addiction are to outlaw alcohol completely. But that won’t be an efficient measure since alcohol can sometimes be used for medicinal purpose too. Killing the substance wont help, we need to kill the habit, the addiction.
