Addiction to gambling is something that has to be dealt with immediately. Whether you are on the scratch card, sports, roulette, slots or poker, or even in a casino, or online, the problem of gambling addiction is something that is sure to interfere with your work and would finally lead to disaster. You may do things you would never want to, like stealing, telling lies, or borrowing money. The myth is that partners of problem gamblers are the main reasons that gamblers gamble. The fact is that gamblers always rationalize their behavior. The only way to avoid accepting they are wrong is to blame others.
The myth is that if a gambler builds up a debt he should be helped to clear it. The fact is that there are solutions that appear to be the right thing to do at that point of time. But bailing the debt of the gambler would only get him more dependent on you. So it is better to let him tackle his problem himself.

Even if gambling is no longer a part of your life the unpleasant felling and the painful experience keeps coming back. So it is really worth spending a lot of time in weaning one out of gambling.
Addiction to gambling is a hidden ailment as there are no signs or symptoms to identify this. Problem gamblers normally minimize the problem or deny that they indulge in gambling. They also go to the extent of withdrawing from the loved ones. They lie about what they have been doing or where they have been.
If a person gambles and he is not open about it, then he is a gambling addict. If you have trouble to walk away from a game of gambling then you are addicted to it. Gamble even when you do not have money is a great sign of gambling addiction. The gambling process and addiction is a vicious process and puts you in the path of destruction very easily. There are many times when you believe that gambling is the best way to live life. But this euphoria lasts only for sometime. It is always better to ensure that you are out of such habits and more and that you get yourself on the path to progress.
Family and friends always worry about you a lot. Denial would only keep the habit on. If the family is worried listen to them and look at how gambling is affecting your life. If it is not a sign of weakness then you need help. It is never too late to make any changes for everyone’s benefit.
Every gambler has a unique quality and he would need a program of recovery made especially for him. It is not that every gambler has the same kind of recovery program. Do not despair if anyone close to you is a gambling addict. Identify the problem and take him to the right doctor who would wean him of this addiction.
